Speaking to Express.co.uk Susie Nelson, the founder of Modes & More, revealed that the first step to looking and feeling your best is having the right underwear.

One popular pair you should get your hands on are the Rae Firm Control High Waist Briefs from John Lewis for just £25.

Sure, £25 might seem steep for a pair on kickers, but there aren't your everyday briefs.

In fact, the underwear has loads of rave reviews online, with many people giving them five star ratings.

One happy shopper said: "I've been waiting for this product all my life.

"This does everything you need it to do. Also I can actually get this pair on. I've struggled to find something that I can grip & hold to pull over my belly and bum.

"I love that the material is soft and not pulling you in so much you can't breathe. I tried on other products that were so tough I couldn't grip and pull over my tummy."

And a second agreed: "These worked amazingly for the wedding I recently attended.

"Very comfy and give me a nice shape. Only issue is it could have slightly better grip on the top," they wrote.

And another five star review reads: "The best thing is that it holds up all the time I was wearing it and comfortably."

Supermarket chic or high end high street -- can you tell the difference between high end jeans more than double the price of their supermarket twins?

Once you've got your underwear under control it's time to think about colours.

It's not just an old wives myth that dark colours are slimming, which is why Susie suggested sticking the dark shades like black and navy for a slimmer silhouette.

These shares are "more slimming than light colours," according to the pro, so a great choice if you don't know what the wear.

And if you wear jeans a lot you should make the change to high waisted styles if you haven't already.

Susie recommended jeans with flared legs as well, which will help elongated your body and create more flattering proportions.

As for specific patterns and designs, anything with a vertical colour band down the side is a winner, Susie said.

The dark band will create a bit of an optical illusion, making you appear slimmer - genius, right?

Sticking to solid colours is better than busy prints which can draw attention to the wrong areas, and always go for a V-neck over crew necklines, she added.

Finally, the fashion whizz noted: "Accentuate your best features with tight clothing and disguise other areas with looser clothing."

So, if you love your waist but want to hide your stomach opt for something that cinches you in at the waist.
