'Everyone should have his and hers toilets'

A £10,000 STONE BATH AND HER VERY OWN LOO MAKE SINGER SINITTA’S BATHROOM A PERSONAL LUXURY SPA

SINGER-TURNED-PRESENTER Sinitta credits Simon Cowell with teaching her the important things in life – not least the need for a decent bathroom.

“I lived with Simon on and off for 20 years and he told me it was the one room you use more than any other, so you must make it perfect,” she says.

For Sinitta, 39, that meant installing a luxurious stone bath on top of heated wooden floors, a sauna box, a steam shower room, and ‘his and hers’ toilet cubicles.

“We were inspired by Chiva Som,” the mum of two explains – referring to the Thai spa she visits every year with husband Andy Willner, 47.

“It’s idyllic, but they don’t allow children there, so I created my own version,” she says.

“There’s nothing better than having a sauna while the bath is running, then slapping a face pack on, lying back in the tub and watching my TV.

"And I love having my own loo too. Not having to share one with Andy keeps the romance alive.”

When Sinitta and Andy, who owns his own headhunting business, bought their detached Victorian property in Putney, London, last year, it was a block of flats.

But after months of hard work, they’ve turned it into a stylish family home for their adopted children, Magdalena, two, and Zac, one.

“I love open spaces and wanted a place the kids could run around in, so we knocked down almost every wall,” she reveals.

The result? Super-size rooms furnished with equally mega furniture.

The living room has its own four-poster bed, while the dining room has two enormous tables in it. But, as Sinitta points out, none of the other rooms can match her bathroom.

“It’s my ultimate sanctuary,” she says.

1. CLOCK “I’ve had this for years and I take it with me when I stay in hotels. I always like to have something from home with me, and this is pretty and practical.”

2. GIRAFFES “I bought these bookends from fair trade shop The Chocolate Elephant. I use them as ornaments because I think they’re beautiful.”

3. BATH “This cost us £10,000. It’s wonderful – you can fit me, Andy, and two small kids in it to watch a movie.”

4. CANDLES “If you want to create a spa at home, you need scented candles.”

5. DRAWERS “I got these from a shop on the King’s Road in London. They were in the bedroom in our last house, but I think they fit in well here.”

SINITTA'S STYLE TIPS

* Get busy with a sledgehammer. You can’t beat airy, open rooms.
* Lighten up. If you want a peaceful environment, paint walls in fresh, clean colours.
* Go natural. Wooden or stone furniture is built to last, and it’ll never go out of fashion.
