'I'm a party animal - my flat's to blame'

WITH STARS CLAMOURING FOR HIS CLOTHES, DESIGNER SCOTT HENSHALL HAS NEVER BEEN BUSIER. SHAME HIS HOME KEEPS DISTRACTING HIM FROM HIS WORK!

Scott Henshall lives in a one-bedroom flat in a quiet cobbled mews.

But before you have him down as a cocoa and slippers kind of guy, you’ll be pleased to know that he’s just minutes away from the bars of London’s trendy Soho and the retail heaven of Marylebone.

Phew, the reputation of fashion’s enfant terrible remains intact.

However, far from his apartment being an oasis of calm where he can concentrate on creating his latest collections, it’s proving to be a hindrance to his work.

“I love to go out and party,” groans Scott, who is nursing a hangover.

“There are too many distractions near here – and being a party animal doesn’t help!”

Despite rolling in at 4am, 32-year-old Scott is bouncing with enthusiasm as he tells the stories behind the Far Eastern theme in his lounge, which also has a home cinema system.

“I went to Bangkok for New Year’s Eve in 1999 and then travelled around Thailand.

"I saw so many lovely things that I couldn’t help but bring them home,” he recalls.

“I’ve also got a couple of things that remind me of being on I’m A Celebrity!, like a carved wooden ornament fellow contestant David Gest gave me.”

Born in York, single Scott divides his time between his studios in London and his native Yorkshire, which is a big source of inspiration for his designs.

Celeb fans include Madonna, Victoria Beckham and Kylie, and he’s just finished another headline-grabbing creation for a starlet to wear to next month’s premiere of Tropic Thunder, starring Ben Stiller and Jack Black.

So who’ll be wearing it? “Well… let’s say she’s a black British singer who’s married to a footballer,” he teases.

Hmmm, could that be Jamelia? Scott just grins and changes the subject. You heard it here first, ladies.

Scott has designed a one-off picnic bench for The Children’s Society National Picnic Week.

1. DRAGONS “These are from a Thai market. They’re meant to bring prosperity and good fortune. I think they cost a couple of pounds each.”

2. SOFA “I bought this in the Harrods sale for about £1,000. I don’t chill out much but I love to watch TV on here.”

3. MONOPOLY “This is a limited-edition Yorkshire version. It has street names, landmarks and locations from the North. It always reminds me of home when I play it.”

4. CABINET AND LOG “The cabinet is from an antiques shop in Thailand. The log was washed up on a beach there so I brought it back and had it treated.”

SCOTT'S STYLE TIPS

* Buy anything in tartan. It’s the biggest trend for autumn. Fashionable patterns and colours always translate well into interiors.

* Don’t declutter – it’s all about maximalism. All of your treasured possessions are what make your place feel like home.

* I’m loving antiques right now. If it looks dated, it’s in!
