All I see is water when I look out of my bedroom window, so it feels like I’m on a ship,” says model Caprice Bourret, whose home is built next to two private lakes in leafy Gloucestershire.
During the week, Caprice stays in London with her boyfriend, property developer John Hitchcox, 46.
Running her lingerie business keeps the 36-year-old Californian-born model busy, so a country house is the perfect antidote to her hectic working life.
“When I’ve had a busy week it’s heaven to come here,” she says.
“The moment I walk through the door, I chill out.”
It was the beauty of the countryside that inspired Caprice’s interior design ideas.
“We’ve given the house a laid-back vibe by using soft colours like creams, pale greens and browns alongside natural fibres.
"I’m quite creative, but designers from John’s company Yoo were responsible for buying all the furnishings,” she explains.
Now the house is complete, Caprice and John have plenty of time to entertain friends.
There are board games in front of the fire or cocktails by candlelight on the decking.
But when she’s not working or socialising, Caprice indulges herself.
“I’ll come up to the bedroom and have a lie down with a book, or gaze out across the lake at the swans and ducks and just drift off,” she smiles. ‘It’s my little piece of heaven.”
By Caprice lingerie is available at Next, Littlewoods Direct and Debenhams.

1. CURTAINS “There’s just a curtain between the bathroom and bedroom. If I’m having a bath I can gaze out at the lake view.“
2. CHAIR “I love this white metal roses armchair by Vibieffe (Vibieffe.com). I have a gold version in my dressing area – they’re just so stylish.”
3. OLD SUITCASES “Like most women, I love knick-knacks because they make a house a home. I found these cases in a local Cotswolds shop.”
4. ORNAMENTS “I like collecting glassware. I got these glass bottles and ornaments from The Conran Shop and Selfridge.”
5. WALLMOUNTS “I love this because it’s so different from a normal bedhead. The bird and flower design fits in with the rural theme in the rest of the house.”

* If you live in the countryside, use nature as your guide when choosing colours and materials.
* Sticking to similar colour schemes in each room will create a feeling of space and continuity.
* Make your mark. I’ve had a swimsuit painted on my bedroom wall and am covering a room with designs from my swimwear range.
* Thanks to my dog Chilli Pepper, I’ve learnt not to spend a fortune on carpets as they usually need replacing in no time.
