CELEBRITY MEDICINE CABINET We discover what sports presenter Gabby Logan, 35, keeps in her bathroom cabinet…
* I try to take a sachet of Spatone liquid iron (£6.95 for 28 sachets) every day. I’m slightly anaemic, so I do get the odd cold. If my immune system is low, it’s because I’ve forgotten to take it.
* Since I was 13 I’ve used the Metrin skincare range (from £12.75). I think it’s the best way to keep my skin healthy. My daily routine takes five or six minutes, but it’s time well spent.
* I’m very clumsy so Nelsons Arnicare Arnica Cream (£3.95) is a lifesaver. If I get a bruise, I dab it on and it reduces the swelling.
Don't get me wrong, I love women in high heels as much as the next man, but it's my duty as a doctor to tell you they're not good for you.
They force the calf muscles to contract, make you arch the small of your back more and push the weight of your body further forward.
Over time, this damages the joints and soft tissues of the body, potentially leaving you crippled – and new research suggests up to a third of women suffer permanent harm.
Problems include arthritis, toe deformities and bunions. There's also extra pressure on the knees, more strain on your back, and you could end up with sciatica.
So if you can't resist killer heels, what can you do? First, limit the amount of time you spend in them. Three-inch heels can cause painful tendonitis when worn more than twice a week, but you can wear 1in heels much more often without the same risk.
Choose a thicker heel to spread the load, and wear soft insoles to reduce the impact on the knees and back. Go for a snug fit, but not too tight.
Finally, keep your feet healthy by paring down any hard skin on your toes and heels with an exfoliant cream and pumice stone.
Food’s not the only thing that has a use-by date – get chucking!
CONTACT LENS SOLUTION Replace… after three months Once opened, germs can contaminate the bottles, putting you at risk of eye infections.
TOOTHBRUSHES Replace… every three to four months Any longer and there will be fungi and bacteria lurking. Worn-out brushes won’t be as effective, making tooth decay more likely.
PILLOWS Replace… every year Pillows are a breeding ground for bacteria and dust mites. Eugh!
