DR HILARY'S DIAGNOSIS

Gaby’s tiredness is very common and perfectly understandable.

Eventually, even the most energetic and motivated of people grind to a halt, especially when sleep deprivation creeps up on them and saps their vitality and drive.

Could there be a medical condition causing it?

Yes, but it’s unlikely in view of the amount of energy she already has.

Sometimes a low-grade infection, such as pyelonephritis in the kidney or a chronic viral illness, can cause this type of fatigue, but the onset of Gaby’s tiredness and her lifestyle just don’t seem to fit with this.

Either way, a blood sample could rule these out straight away.

I’d advise Gaby to listen to her body a bit more.

She’s not 21 any more, and physically and mentally she isn’t getting enough rest.

I’d like her to find more time for herself so she can relax and wind down sometimes.

But it doesn’t sound like she needs to worry too much – judging by her usual routine, she already has the energy of 20 women!

'Why am I always so tired?'

EVERY WEEK A CELEB ASKS OUR FABULOUS DOCTOR FOR DIAGNOSIS. THIS WEEK IT’S TV PRESENTER GABY ROSLIN, 43

When I first started in TV I worked on fast-paced shows which demanded energy-sapping 20-hour days.

Needless to say I’d get extremely tired.

I managed to survive on adrenaline for a long time, but it got to the point where I literally couldn’t do it any more because I was so exhausted.

Working in TV is tiring, so even though I wound down my hours I knew I had to make changes to my lifestyle and diet to help boost my energy levels.

I stopped smoking, switched to a healthier diet and started going to the gym.

All of these helped me feel more energised, but I still suffered sneezing fits at night which disrupted my sleep.

Thankfully a nutritionist diagnosed me with a wheat allergy and I slept soundly after cutting it out of my diet.

But my exhaustion returned as I got older and had kids.

Like any working mum with two children – Libbi-Jack, six, and 14-month-old Amelie – I’m constantly shattered.

I’m always on the go and need a lot of energy to get through each day.

A few weeks ago I bought Boots Kaneka Q10, an energy supplement, which has helped boost my energy levels.

It’s not like I’m leaping in the air every morning, but I soon noticed it making a difference.

Is there anything else I can do to put more of a spring in my step?
