Sri Sudevi Nominated by her daughter Rajasan, single mum Sri has always fought for what she believes in. Her passion for doing the right thing has meant that she has taken on many causes, from raising £1m to build a new hostel in Guildford for Alcoholics to working at an animal sanctuary at the weekends, as well as helping Rajasan look after her children and run her business. "Mum deserves to be recognised as a caring person who has worked selflessly all her life for humans, animals and her family," explains Rajasan. "She never stops, working for our business at night, providing childcare for me in the day and doing charity work as her hobby - I want everyone to know what a wonderful multi-tasker my mum is!" |

Linda Goodwin Yorkshire woman Linda, 49, was nominated by her son Ben, who said that although she already has a lot on her plate as full-time carer for her mother, who has Alzheimer's disease and her dad, who’s suffering from Parkinson’s disease, she also finds the time to run the local Mother & Toddlers group. On top of that, Linda also cares for two elderly women nearby and helps raise money for the charity York Against Cancer. "My mum may not have cured a disease or climbed Mount Everest," says Ben. "But she has a rare quality of being able to listen to others and help with with her words and actions. She has improved the lives of so many people around her and has never expected anything in return." |

Donna Jones During her 28 years working for Sheffield Youth Service, Donna spent over half of them focusing on the Manor Woodthorpe Estate - once dubbed ”the worst estate in Britain”. As part of her job, Donna established the Manor Young People’s Health and Training Project, aimed at working with the estate’s local youths. Through her hard work she’s managed to turn the estate and the lives of its young inhabitants around. "Donna has raised nearly £800,00 to keep it running and deliver flexible and suitable projects for the young people," explains Jane Wilson who nominated Donna. "The commitment to the community in which she works cannot be quantified - just appreciated by all the young people she has worked with and their families." |

Nicky Chisholm After the birth of her first son, Nicky found the experience so traumatic she had to seek counselling and discovered a support service run by a local midwife called Birth Stories. After receiving their help, Nicky wanted to make sure such a valuable service was always available to mums who had gone through the same experience as her during childbirth. "Discovering Birth Stories has given me the passion to find a way to support other women who have gone through difficult births" explains Nicky. So she decided to start up her own company, Mums in Biz, to help provide ‘Business Start Up’ seminars, aimed at mums looking for a new career path and also help raise funds to keep Birth Stories going. "Life is always a constant state of organised chaos and fun. With two boys, a business and being a volunteer for the Princes Trust, there is never a spare moment, but there is room for my passion - raising awareness of a service that saved my life,"
adds Nicky. |

Sarah Demellweek 18 months ago, Sarah was on the verge of bankruptcy after her business partner fled the UK, taking all the money from their café business venture. Sarah lost everything she owned, ¬ including her home - but was determined to use the opportunity to start again and realise her dream of setting up an online personal development community. "I wanted to turn the negativity of the last year and a half into a shining triumph that would inspire other people who thought the odds were stacked against them," says Sarah. "There have been times when I have cried myself to sleep wondering why it happened to me, but each time the doubts have surfaced I've channelled the energy into making sure my dream came true." Which it finally did late last year, when Sarah launched her self-help and motivational website, www.clarissascloset.com |
