TIPS ON HOW TO HAVE A BETTER SEX LIFE

Sex expert Dr Petra Boynton says...
* Lubrication definitely isn’t cheating and can make a huge difference.
* Accept there are times in your life – like when you’ve just had a baby or suffered a bereavement – when it’s absolutely normal to go off sex.
* Is your sex life suffering because you’re afraid to tell your partner what you’d really like? Look at a sex book together, have a giggle and say: “I like the look of this, but we won’t be doing that.”
* If he’s doing something you like, tell him! Praise is a huge turn-on for men.
* Feeling unattractive can dent your self-esteem. Enrol on a confidence-building course or consult your doctor. If you’re having sex in the dark because you’re conscious of your cellulite, try telling yourself life’s too short.

'I'D RATHER WATCH TV THAN HAVE SEX'

Lin Robinson, 40, is a housewife with two children aged 12 and 13. She’s been with her partner for 15 years and lives in Hertfordshire.

We used to have sex every day, at any time.

Many couples find that sex goes out the window when they have children, but it wasn’t like that for us.

Our sex life started to dwindle a few years ago.

As the children got older, they’d spend more time in the house on the computer, which meant there was less opportunity for us – plus it felt awkward doing it when they were around.

Sometimes I feel fat and unattractive – everything’s gone a bit floppy and I don’t always feel sexy.

Now we have sex about twice a week, but I miss the spontaneity.

Sex is more routine, but I think that happens to everybody.

I love my partner and still fancy him, but it’s a different kind of love now.

I enjoy sex, but I can’t always be bothered.

It takes up too much time when I could be doing something else – like watching the telly.

'EVERY TIME IS LIKE THE FIRST TIME'

Amy Cox, 20, has been with her partner Ashley for six months. They live in London. Amy works in HR and Ashley’s a plumber.

Ashley’s got a lovely smile and a gorgeous bum, and I absolutely adore him.

I waited almost two months before I slept with him for the first time.

Every time I have sex with Ashley, it’s so exciting that it feels like the first time.

We have sex at least once a day, sometimes twice.

I give him my key and he goes round to my house and waits for me after work.

We do it in the evening and sometimes in the morning – he’ll be leaving and I’ll drag him back to bed.

During the day I send him texts with pictures or videos to keep him going.

We both still live at home and it can be awkward at his house because his bed squeaks.

One night his mum banged on the door, saying she had to be up early.

The next day in front of the whole family she said: ‘I think you should get a new bed.’

I went red and walked out the room, but Ashley just laughed.

I think we’re meant to be together.

'I WANT MORE SEX BUT HAVE TO PLAN IT'

Susan Bryant, 24, is a full-time mum to her sons, aged one and three. She’s been married for three years and lives in Northamptonshire.

I’m only 24 but I have the sex life of a much older woman.

I met Jon when I was 18, and it was very passionate at first.

We’d talk dirty and had sex every day all over the house.

We’d been together nearly a year when I fell pregnant.

I liked sex when I was pregnant, but Jon went off it.

We hoped it would go back to normal but I had a difficult birth, including a torn cervix, so I didn’t feel like making love.

By the time Charlie was six months old, our sex life was back on track and we were having sex two or three times a week.

Then I got pregnant again.

We didn’t make love for about three months after Felix was born as I was breastfeeding and went off sex – I felt as if my body belonged to my baby.

Now we make love about once every 10 days.

Jon and I have such different routines, we have to plan sex.

I want more but I also want the energy to want more.

I’m not happy with the state of our love life.

Jon and I have discussed the fact that this is the toughest time of our marriage.

Many of my friends are 10 years older than me and when they tell me they were doing it three times a day at my age, I feel sad.

Part of being young is having lots of sex and I really miss the closeness I used to have with Jon.

'I NEVER HAVE SEX WITH MY WIFE... BUT I HAVE IT FIVE TIMES A MONTH WITH MY MISTRESS'

Peter, 41, has been married for 15 years. He’s a designer from Yorkshire.

My wife and I haven’t had sex for six years, but I don’t want a divorce because we have three children under 13.

It was hideous being trapped in a passionless, celibate marriage, so I joined Illicit Encounters, an online dating service for married people.

I met a 38-year-old woman and instantly felt that teenage buzz all over again.

The sex is exciting, but there’s so much more to our relationship.

Like me she’s frustrated – her husband is happiest on the sofa with a beer in one hand and the TV remote in the other.

I’ve been seeing her for nearly a year and we have sex in hotels four or five times a month.

I often have to work away from home so spending time together is not a problem.

I felt guilty at first, and I probably still would if my wife and I were having sex.
