It’s not long since 24-year-old Rebecca Gutmann was fashion-obsessed.

“I was an office receptionist so I’d be in tailored suits at work, then glam it up at weekends,” she says.

But after the birth of her daughter Leah four years ago, her priorities changed.

“I spend most of my time at home with Leah, so I play it safe with comfy tops, jeans and Ugg boots,” says Rebecca, from Bromley, Kent.

"Now I want fashionable clothes that make me look like a cool young mum."

Luckily, TV stylist Nicky Hambleton-Jones has plenty of ideas.

“Busy mums can still work some of this summer’s looks,” she says.

“Bold prints, maxi dresses and nautical tops can all be dressed down so they’re not too high-maintenance.”

REBECCA'S VERDICT:

“I’d never have picked up a maxi dress but the colour looks great and I can put it on and feel glam in seconds.

" I love the nautical dress too. I’d feel really trendy shopping in this.”

Nicky presents 10 Years Younger. Her book, Top To Toe, is out now (Hodder & Stoughton, £16.99).

Nicky says (BLUE DRESS): “The brilliant thing about a maxi dress is that it does all the work for you. You don’t have to worry about matching things up, you just slip it on and you’re done.”

Dress, £60, Star by Julien Macdonald at Debenhams;
bangle, £6, Diva at Miss Selfridge;
bracelet, £8 for two, Freedom at Topshop;
shoes, £45, Faith

Nicky says (NAVY DRESS): “The nautical look is one of the biggest trends for summer, and it can be casual or dressy. This navy and white dress makes Rebecca look cute and feminine.”

Dress, £59.50, Marks & Spencer:
belt, £12, ASOS

Nicky says (TUNIC AND WHITE TROUSERS): “Bold prints are perfect if you’re a young mum because they disguise any dirty fingerprints you might pick up! Rebecca could wear this tunic with jeans and flip-flops in the day, or like this with white linen trousers and wedges for a night out.”

Tunic, £39.50, Marks & Spencer;
trousers, £40, Oasis;
necklace, £12, Freedom at Topshop;
belt, £8, Evie at Peacocks;
shoes, £10, Cherokee at Tesco
