Stepping out in front of the cameras in LA, Katie Price was eager to show off her new breasts.
Once a mammoth G cup, she had just undergone surgery to reduce them to a 32C in her bid to finally shrug off her glamour girl image.
But for once all eyes weren’t on her cleavage. Instead it was her suspiciously plumped-up lips and painfully thin legs that drew comment.
What had happened to the once-curvy glamour model who was blessed with natural beauty, in addition to those pneumatic breasts?
Friends, however, were far from surprised by Katie’s latest look.
They say that even though she has built up a £30million fortune, was recently named Britain’s most inspirational businesswoman and has a seemingly idyllic home life with husband Peter Andre and their three children, Katie is increasingly plagued by insecurities.
One told us: “We’re worried she’s on the verge of body dysmorphia (where a person becomes obsessed with imaginary defects). She stands in front of the mirror pulling and prodding bits of her body and saying she needs to get things done.
“She’s always been insecure. She was desperate to crack America and the fact she hasn’t has just made things worse.
“She used to say: ‘When I make £1million I’ll be happy.’ Then it was £2million. Now she has so much money but she’s still not content. She thinks that if she creates the perfect body and the perfect face, she’ll be happy.”
Katie, 30, flew to LA for her latest surgical procedure earlier this month.

She had been left bitterly disappointed by the results of previous breast reduction surgery in December last year, which she had hoped would lead to her being taken more seriously.
The former Page Three girl spent £18,000 on the boob op and a nose job, and also decided to have her teeth capped.
But in February she admitted she hated the results and felt her breasts were still too large.
“They look fine in a bra, but they hang too low when I’m standing up and it’s really bad when I’m lying down,” she explained.
“I’ve had three boob jobs before and I’ve seen enough other ones to know what they should be like – and they’re not right.”
She added: “My boobs and nose were £18,000 and my gnashers were £25,000 – but the veneers are botched as well. It feels like electricity going through my teeth. It’s awful.”
In the 13 years since embarking on her career as a glamour girl, Katie has been a constant fixture in the tabloid newspapers – and in her surgeon’s consulting rooms.
Her latest boob job is her fifth – she’s had three enlargements and two reductions.
Before her first breast enhancement, aged 19 – which took her from a 34C to a 34D in 1998, she said: “Having bigger boobs will make me more confident.”
She had another operation a year later, to take her to a 36DD. And then, in 2000, she went up to a G cup – this time to ‘celebrate’ the end of her relationship with pop star Dane Bowers.
He had publicly humiliated her by cheating on her with Sarah Bosnich, ex-wife of footballer Mark, and surgery seemed the emotional and physical boost she needed.
Since that time she has had more and more surgery – trying to correct body problems only she can see.
She has admitted to having liposuction on her already tiny thighs and wrinkle-busting Botox to combat the signs of ageing on her flawless face.
Meanwhile, gone are the famous curves, replaced instead with a size zero body. She’s thought to weigh just 7st, shockingly low for her 5ft 5in height.
She has always strenuously denied having an eating disorder, insisting: “I’ve got to eat well to have energy for my kids and to horse ride every day otherwise I’d pass out!
“I’m eating normally, but I did lose 3lb while Peter was away [in Cyprus recently] as I wasn’t having sit-down dinners with him. I’m not anorexic!”
But that famous smile – complete with new teeth – hasn’t been seen in a long while.
Even her runaway success as a novelist and businesswoman has seemingly not been enough to rid her of her demons.
Friends say she is terrified that Peter will leave her for a younger woman, and she has spoken openly about her jealous streak.
She has promised that this latest procedure will be her last. She even offered this warning to others considering a cosmetic boost: “Just stay natural because I’ve been through all this and look at the state of me.”
Whether she is happy with her new smaller breasts remains to be seen.
But how long will it be before she is booking in for a further procedure to give her another injection of the self-esteem she so desperately craves?
