'You won’t catch me in skinny jeans'
TV PRESENTER HOLLY WILLOUGHBY, 27, ON HER FASHION FAUX PAS AND WHY TIGHT DENIM IS THE ENEMY
How do you describe your style? Very sexy, feminine and, I’d like to think, glamorous.
What makes a woman stylish? Confidence! Just wearing whatever the hell you want with the conviction to pull it off.
What are your favourite shops and why? I love the tailoring at Warehouse – the pencil skirts are fabulous. River Island does cute little prom dresses too.
Which clothes flatter your figure? Dresses suit me best because of my hourglass shape. I’m a 12 on the bottom and a 10 on the top so I have to think about my womanly curves when picking clothes. I also suit shirts – they look good slightly unbuttoned with a cute bra underneath.
Who is your favourite designer? Diane von Furstenberg. You wear her dresses, they don’t wear you. I have 12 in my wardrobe and adore her classic wrap-around dress.
Which celebrity’s wardrobe would you like to raid, and why? Victoria Beckham’s. People say she hasn’t got much fashion sense but she’s very glamorous and has some gorgeous dresses and bags. It’s probably because the overall package is a little too polished that she attracts so much criticism. Effortless style like Sienna Miller is beautiful too.
What types of clothes don’t suit you, and why?Skinny jeans and I are not good friends because I’m so curvy. But I’ve fallen in love with J Brand jeans recently, particularly the boot-cut styles. They cost about £170, which I know is expensive, but they’re worth it for the happiness they bring.
What is the one item in your wardrobe that you would never throw away? A short-sleeved ’70s multicoloured jacket that my mum gave me. Every time I wear it people rave about it and it looks fantastic with everything – particularly summer dresses.
What’s the biggest fashion mistake you’ve ever made? White tights. I wore them with a navy dress and it looked as if I had a pair of prosthetic legs hanging out the bottom of my dress! I copied the look from my best friend, Fearne Cotton. She can wear any combination of clothes and look amazing. And the trouble is I see what she wears and start to convince myself it will work for me too. Instead, I look like a weirdo.
Who is your style icon? Marilyn Monroe. I love the old-fashioned glamour of her era and that’s what I aim to emulate because it makes me feel sexy.
