The Hype: With a cult following including Paula Abdul, Sharon Osbourne and Helen Mirren, this light gel uses a strong form of human growth hormone that’s meant to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and even out the complexion in a matter of weeks.

The Hype: Elle Macpherson (right) is a fan of Environ’s skincare range and according to specialist Dr Thierry Hertoghe, this gel has a direct action on skin. As well as HGH, the gel’s formula contains cow’s colostrum (the first breast milk delivered straight after birth), which plumps and firms wrinkled skin.

When the winners at this year’s Oscars got their goody bags, there was one freebie they couldn’t wait to get their manicured mitts on – 3Lab’s “h” Serum.
Sold out across Hollywood to stars including Sharon Osbourne and Helen Mirren, the £125 pot of cream contains a revolutionary ingredient that’s been taking the beauty world by storm – human growth hormone (or HGH).
And it’s not some freaky science – it’s a hormone that occurs naturally in the body and plays a vital role in ageing.
The older you get, the lower your levels of HGH.
This can lead to excess body fat, a lack of lean muscle tissue and wrinkle-prone skin.
Research into HGH began 10 years ago, but the trials were stopped when the injections were found to cause dangerous side effects.
“It was discovered that high doses could lead to an irregular heartbeat, diabetes and bone deformities in the face and joints,” explains Dr Aamer Khan of the Harley Street Medical Clinic.

In some countries, forms of the hormone are banned – Sylvester Stallone fell foul of Australian law last year when he carried 48 vials of a HGH product, Jintropin, in his luggage.
After customs officials discovered the vials, Sly later pleaded guilty to bringing a restricted substance into the country, and was hit with a £5,000 fine.
Such is the controversy over HGH injections that it has never been approved as an anti-ageing supplement.
Until now…
The brains behind 3Lab, chemist John Kressaty, was so fascinated by the wrinkle-busting properties of HGH, he set about developing the hormone so that it could be added to skincare products.
The results of his £2.5m research have just hit UK shores in the form of the “h” Serum.
“There is a good case to suggest that creams rich in a version of HGH will play an important role in keeping skin younger looking,” says Dr Thierry Hertoghe, one of Britain’s leading human hormone specialists.
“As long as the cosmetics use technology that allows HGH to penetrate deep into the skin, its positive effects will show up with no dangerous side effects.”
John Kressaty’s certainly happy with trials of 3Lab’s “h” Serum.
“The results of using this bio-engineered growth hormone have been phenomenal,” he says.
“We tested it on Australian women who have the most sun-damaged skin and found that after just a few weeks of use it had delivered significant improvement in their wrinkles and skin texture.”
