WHETHER YOU’RE A SHAVER OR A WAXER, THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY MEANS IT’S NEVER BEEN EASIER TO GET SILKY-SMOOTH, HAIR-FREE SKIN

WAXING

The problem? Ouch! It hurts.
The solution Loved by A-listers, hot new treatment the Lycon Wax promises amazing results with 70 per cent less pain. The wax shrink-wraps the hair so it doesn’t stick to the skin like traditional methods, making it much less tortuous. Prices start from £18.50 at Cobella Day Spa, London. If you’re waxing at home, try applying No Scream Cream, £13.50, 45 minutes before you start. It contains the highest concentration of local anaesthetic benzocaine available without prescription, and claims to reduce pain by up to 80 per cent.

The problem? You don’t want to wait to wax.
The solution Most waxes are only effective when hair is 2mm long. Avoid the grow-back fuzz with So Berry Delicious Wax, from £22, at wax bar Strip in London. It removes hairs as short as a barely-visible 1mm – no wonder Victoria Beckham’s a fan. Or try Wax Away’s new Fruity Peelable Warm Wax, £7.99. It has a red berry fragrance and works wonders on short stubble.

CREAMS

The problem? Quick regrowth.
The solution It may be fast and pain-free, but hair removal creams do have a downside – regrowth appears in days. The new YSX Forever Hair Free cream, £19.95, solves this.It comes with an after-treatment spray that slows down regrowth keeping hair at bay for weeks at a time.

LASERS

The problem? They’re seriously expensive.
The solution: The Tria Personal Laser is the first medical grade laser hair removal device that can be used at home. At £695, it’s not cheap, but when you compare it with a course of six laser treatments at a clinic – £700 just for the lower legs – it suddenly seems like good value. The Tria reduces hair by around 60 per cent in three months and could keep unsightly stubble away for years. Not only that, it’s easy to use and only works when in contact with the skin, so there’s no danger of singeing yourself.

The problem? Lasers don’t work on dark skin.
The solution: Older lasers are often less effective on dark skin because its pigmentation absorbs more of the laser’s light, which can potentially cause burning. But with the Soprano XL salon treatment, the laser’s light is absorbed by the hair, not the skin, making it effective on all skin colours. It’s available at Courthouse Clinics nationwide, with prices starting from £90 for a standard bikini line treatment.

SHAVING

The problem? It leaves skin bumpy.
The solution: This can be caused by short shaved hairs growing back at an angle. Endure it no more by trying Princereigns Ingrown Hair Serum, £24.95. It’s new from the US and top of Oprah’s 2008 beauty favourites list. It works by straightening and strengthening the hair follicle so the hair grows straight. Or try the new Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women, £4.99 for three. It has four blades and contains a rubber guard that forces the hairs to stand upright to ensure a closer shave.
