The Wellbox may look like a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a foot spa, but this isn’t the kind of gadget you’ll slide under the bed and forget about after you’ve used it twice.

According to its makers, that’s because there’s nothing on your body that this box of tricks can’t fix – from releasing trapped fat to boosting metabolism and firming saggy skin, it can do it.

No wonder it sold out at top London store Harrods in just two days!

The secret is in the motorised rollers which massage deep down into the body’s tissues.

This stimulates regeneration of the skin and breaks down fat, including the stubborn deposits that are often resistant to diet and exercise.

“The powerful rollers penetrate each layer of the skin to release trapped fats and improve circulation,” says Dr Clélia Monteux, Head of Research at Wellbox.

“It’s the only at-home treatment that emulates Endermologie, the original in-salon, body-sculpting technique that’s the number one way to treat cellulite.”

According to its designers, after using the Wellbox for eight weeks, some users experience a 3cm reduction in their thigh circumference.

No wonder finding someone to try it out for Fabulous was easy.

“I have such a jelly belly which no amount of exercise can shift,” says Andrea Tallyn, 23, from Nottingham.

“I’ve used the box for six minutes every day since April on my worst areas, especially my stomach.

“It felt a bit odd – a gentle pinching sensation – but my skin was tightened, and in two months I lost two inches from my waist and dropped from a size 14 to a size 12.”

Beauty’s other breakthrough gadgets

The celebrity facelift

Kate Moss was so taken with her Tua Viso, (£179, Tinarichards.com), she gave one to friends Kelly Osbourne and Meg Mathews.

It’s a pioneering hand-held face-lifting gadget that works by using electrical pulses to lift and sculpt the face and stimulate wrinkle-busting collagen.

Tested by: Adele Kelly, 39, from London

“I don’t have terrible wrinkles, but I have noticed my skin starting to sag.

"I’ve tried loads of creams, but nothing seems to work.

"However my skin felt less slack after one use with the Tua Viso.

"Within a week, the muscles in my face were aching so I knew it was working.

"After a few months, my face has been transformed and I’ve got my teenage cheekbones back!”

The cellulite-buster

At-home cellulite treatments have been disappointing until now, but the launch of the Cellu-Smooth by Beauty Works (£49.99, 01322 226031) promises to change all that.

It uses ultrasound, usually only available in salons, to release toxins and break down the fatty deposits which cause skin to dimple.

Tested by: Laura Bond, 26, from Norfolk

“The Cellu-Smooth is compact and easy to use – you apply the conductive gel, then smooth the wand over the areas affected by orange peel.

"The gel irritated my skin, and I was slightly worried when the applicator heated up, but my cellulite did look less dimply after a few weeks of use.”

The mess-free micro-dermabrasion

A dull complexion ages a face as much as crow’s feet.

But Roc Renewex Micro Dermabrasion Expert Kit (£39.95, Boots.com) has been designed to help you buff your way to beautiful skin.

It comes with a vibrating applicator which you use with the micro-crystal cream to slough off dead cells.

Tested by: Anne Fleming, 51, from Buckinghamshire

“I used the Renewex twice a week for a month.

"My skin felt smoother and looked more radiant after the first try.

"It was easy to use, but the applicator seemed to tickle rather than give a deep exfoliation.

"Next time, I’ll just buy the micro-crystals cream.”
